Relaxed environment – All assessments take place in a calm and supportive setting, helping learners feel at ease.

When and where – Booking time/date & location to be agreed before booking.

Duration – Sessions typically take up to an hour.

What’s involved – A series of short literacy and cognitive tasks are completed to build a profile of strengths and challenges.

After the session, Gilly provides a clear verbal summary of assessment findings along with recommended next steps, or you can receive the test results e-mailed and a list of recommendations for an additional £95.

THIS IS NOT A FORMAL DIAGNOSIS

FORMAL DYSLEXIA ASSESSMENT (UNDER 16) - £475

If your child is struggling with reading, spelling, or writing, you might be wondering if dyslexia is a factor. A formal assessment can provide clarity, highlight both strengths and challenges, and offer practical strategies to support your child’s learning journey.

KEY BENEFITS OF A DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT

Identify strengths and challenges:
The assessment identifies your child’s specific areas of strength and difficulty, creating a comprehensive cognitive profile.

Targeted support:
Based on the detailed findings, you and your child’s school can develop a tailored support plan, with specific strategies for learning at home and in the classroom.

Formal identification:
A formal diagnosis recognises dyslexia as a disability under the Equality Act 2010. Educational institutions and employers have a duty of care to provide reasonable adjustments. This is a lifelong document.

Eligibility for support:
The assessment report is beneficial in relation to securing appropriate exam access arrangements at school, applying for DSA (disability student allowance) in higher education, and requesting workplace accommodations.

Reassurance and self-esteem:
A diagnosis validates the child's difficulties, highlighting their strengths, and opens the door to tailored learning strategies that will provide lifelong supportive techniques.

Informed decision-making:
The evidence-based report provides valuable information to share with teachers, the school’s SENCO, and other professionals to improve understanding and appropriate support.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE ASSESSMENT?

Preparation: Before the assessment, there will be a phone call and questionnaires to be completed prior to assessment, to gather background information and to better understand your child and the nature and extent of their difficulties.

Assessment process: A range of standardised tests are administered, typically taking between half a day/ full day with regular rest breaks.

Reporting: All assessment information is carefully collated into a formal report. This report includes the assessment results, a clear diagnosis where the evidence supports it, and practical recommendations to help address any difficulties identified. The report is sent within 3 weeks.

Disclaimer
As a qualified assessor, I am able to provide formal assessments and diagnoses of dyslexia. However, please be aware that there is no guarantee that an assessment will result in a diagnosis of dyslexia. Each assessment is carried out independently and objectively, based on recognised criteria and best practice guidelines. Where a diagnosis is not given, tailored advice, guidance, and support will still be provided to help address individual learning needs. All payments are non-refundable.

FORMAL DYSLEXIA ASSESSMENT (POST 16) - £475

A formal dyslexia assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to identify specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia in individuals aged 16 and above. Post 16 assessments are particularly important as they can provide access to specialist support in higher education, employment, and everyday life.

BENEFITS OF A DIAGNOSIS IN ADULTHOOD

Self-Understanding:
A formal diagnosis helps you understand why you may have struggled with reading, writing, or spelling, providing a significant boost to confidence and self-esteem.

Personalised Support:
The assessment report highlights your strengths and challenges, enabling you to develop strategies tailored to your needs and access specific support.

Career & Education Accommodations:
A professional assessment can be used to request reasonable adjustments in the workplace or to access funded support at university, such as the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) in the UK.

Emotional Well-being:
Understanding the reasons behind past academic struggles can help you move forward with reassurance and envision a future with the right support in place.

WHAT IS DYSLEXIA?

Dyslexia is a lifelong difference in the way the brain processes information. It is most commonly linked to challenges with reading, writing, and spelling, but it can also affect other areas such as memory, organisation, sequencing, and processing speed.

Diagnosing dyslexia is a detailed process that must be carried out by a qualified specialist.

It’s important to understand that dyslexia is not a reflection of intelligence or ability. Many people with dyslexia are exceptionally creative thinkers, strong problem solvers, and innovators who bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to their work and learning.

With early recognition, the right support, and strategies that focus on individual strengths, people with dyslexia can achieve great success and thrive in education, the workplace, and daily life.

IS A DIAGNOSIS NECCESARY?

A diagnosis isn’t a label, it’s empowerment. It helps us understand how someone learns and processes information, so we can tailor the right support, tools, and strategies to build confidence and unlock potential.

By identifying individual learning styles, we can provide the right environment for people with dyslexia to thrive, achieve their goals, and reach their full potential.
